Certified Peer Specialists are individuals who are in recovery from a mental illness/addiction and are specially trained to assist others in skill building, goal setting, and creative problem solving. The idea is to help individuals to develop their own self-directed recovery tools. Certified Peer Specialists provide a unique perspective on mental illness as they have the lived experience of what makes recovery possible and can offer encouragement and hope for a future.
At Project Transition our Peer Specialists model and promote self-determination, personal responsibility and empowerment, creating opportunities and environments that foster recovery. Members at Project Transition are supported and encouraged to accomplish their goals and reconnect to themselves to find meaning and purpose in life.
Certified Peer Specialist values and competencies are reflected in the Mental Health Campaign for increased awareness that people with serious mental illness can and do recover.
